Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth will join Leeds United on a season-long loan next term, according to Argentine journalist Nicolas Bozza of Radio La Red.
The 22-year-old has fallen out-of-favour at Spurs under head coach Jose Mourinho and he has failed to make a single competitive appearance since the beginning of 2020.
During this period, Mourinho has utilised Eric Dier ahead of him for the central defensive duties while club graduate Japhet Tanganga has also been handed a chance to make a mark.
Leeds have been linked with the defender over the past few months and it is now reported by Bozza that the Argentine will head to the west Yorkshire outfit on loan next term.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently at the top of the Championship with a seven-point gap over third-placed Fulham and they are in a good position to seal an automatic promotion spot with nine games remaining.
Should they make the return to the top-flight after a 16-year hiatus, a move would surely become attractive for Foyth, who has made just 32 appearances during his three years in north London.
The Peacocks are bracing for the departure of Ben White when his loan contract from Brighton & Hove Albion expires and their chances of signing him on a permanent deal seem unlikely.
Brighton currently have no desire to part ways with White but should they consider to do so, Leeds may not be able to compete financially with the competition from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Hence, they will require a suitable replacement and Foyth could fill the void. The Argentine will meet Bielsa’s demands for a ball-playing centre-back while he has valuable Premier League experience.
Foyth currently has around two years remaining on his contract with the north London side. Bielsa’s side could propose to sign him on a temporary deal with the option to buy at the end of next season.
