Three talking points from Matchday 15 of the Championship

Matchday 15 of the Championship saw the top four sides fail to pick up victories and that allowed the likes of Bristol City and Brentford behind them to close the gap. As things stand, only goal difference separates the clubs from second to fifth on the table. Norwich City are still top with a one-point advantage, but there is just a four-point gap between them and 10th-placed Middlesbrough.

Three talking points from the midweek action:

Brentford break into top six: The Bees have picked up momentum as the season has progressed and they managed to break into the play-off positions for the first time after the away triumph at Rotherham United. They have now picked up three wins on the bounce and have the top position in their sights with just a two-point deficit to the Canaries, who are going through a rough patch amid their injury crisis.

Norwich City’s unbeaten run ends: Daniel Farke’s side have been hampered the most by injuries and they went into the Luton clash without 10 first-team stars including top-scorer Teemu Pukki. It was always a tricky clash with Nathan Jones’ side proving tough to beat in recent weeks and their 3-1 defeat ended their 10-match unbeaten streak. The Canaries are now winless in back-to-back games and must win at the weekend to avoid dropping down the table.

Derby concede late again: Derby have been under the sole interim charge of Wayne Rooney in the past two games and they will be hugely disappointed with back-to-back home draws. They conceded a late 81st-minute equaliser to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend. Against Coventry City, Colin Kazim-Richards put the Rams on course for a victory in the 83rd minute, but they could not hold on as Gustavo Hamer scored in stoppage time for the visitors. With the result, Derby are bottom and winless in 11 straight games. They are five points adrift of safety.
