Stoke City have suffered a blow in their quest for Premier League promotion with top scorer Tyrese Campbell likely to miss the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury, the club have confirmed.
The former Manchester City youngster has enjoyed a terrific campaign with the Potters and he has registered seven goals and six assists in the Championship.
However, the 20-year-old may no longer play any part for Michael O’Neil’s side this season after picking up a serious knee injury following an awkward fall in the second half of the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City earlier this week.
“Stoke City can confirm that Tyrese Campbell is likely to miss the remainder of the 2020/21 Championship season. The Club subsequently sought the opinion of two specialists but their worst fears have been realised,” a statement from the club read.
The absence of Campbell is certainly a big blow for the Potters, who were gathering momentum and were recently in the play-off positions before the loss to the Bluebirds.
O’Neil’s men have since played out a goalless stalemate against Derby County on the road and that has dropped them two points behind Brentford, who are occupying the final play-off position.
The Staffordshire outfit will come up against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night. The hosts have picked up just one point from the previous five games and Stoke will be hoping to take advantage and return to winning ways.
Still, they will need to show an improvement in the final third of the pitch where they have managed just two shots on target in the previous two games against Cardiff and Derby respectively.
Stoke’s recent record against Rangers has been poor. They have picked up just two points from the previous four league meetings. The west London side did the double over them last term.
