Birmingham City and Ipswich Town will kick off the 2025-26 Championship season on Friday, August 8.
The teams were two leagues apart last term, but they will meet each other this week in an exciting game at St Andrew’s stadium.
Match Preview
Birmingham were impeccable last season, winning the League One title after finishing 19 points above second-placed Wrexham.
They have since kept hold of their key players and have strengthened too, bringing Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi.
But their pre-season results have been mixed, with the Blues winning four and losing three of their seven friendlies.
Although their latest home encounter saw them beating Nottingham Forest 1-0, with Jay Stansfield scoring the only goal of the match.
Birmingham will now look to make an impressive start by beating Ipswich on Friday.
Kieran McKenna’s side endured a disappointing 2024-25 Premier League campaign, as they lost 24 of their 38 matches to suffer an immediate relegation to the Championship.
But given their squad quality, Ipswich are one of the favourites to secure top-flight promotion this season.
They have won all four of their pre-season games, beating FC Blau-Weiß Linz, Aberdeen, Charlton Athletic and Auxerre.
