Leeds United reclaimed the top spot in the Championship ahead of West Bromwich Albion following a convincing 3-0 win over Fulham at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
The west Yorkshire outfit had not won any of their previous seven meetings against the west London side with five draws and two defeats, but they were able to reverse their fortunes with an effective attacking display.
Patrick Bamford opened the scoring after just 10 minutes on the clock with a neat left-footed shot in the box. Before the hour mark, winger Ezgjan Alioski doubled the advantage after some poor bit of defending from Steven Parker’s side.
In the 71th minute, the Peacocks made it 3-0 in their favour after Jack Harrison scored his first goal of 2020 on the counter-attack. The goal was made by Pablo Hernandez, who delivered a superb defence splitting pass for the Manchester City loanee.
With the victory, Leeds have a three-point advantage over the Baggies at the top of the standings, but most importantly, they are now eight points clear of third-placed Brentford and are edging ever closer to sealing automatic promotion to the top-flight, where they have not been since 2004.
Leeds’ next game will come against relegation-threatened Luton Town at home on Tuesday night. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are separated from Luton by 21 places, but they can’t underestimate the Bedfordshire club, who are unbeaten in five league games.
Graeme Jones’ side have picked up points against the likes of Brentford, Preston North End and Swansea City during the unbeaten run and Leeds can’t afford to get complacent after their comfortable victory over the Cottagers.
