Ezgjan Alioski insists Leeds United have nothing to celebrate about

Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski has insisted that the club have nothing to celebrate about despite their recent 3-0 win over Fulham in the Championship.

The west Yorkshire outfit resumed their Championship season after the coronavirus shutdown with a 2-0 defeat at Cardiff City, but they made amends with a comfortable victory over the Cottagers on Saturday.

The win has taken the club to the top of the table ahead of West Bromwich Albion and they are now eight points ahead of third-placed Brentford in the league standings.

With seven games to play, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are definitely the favourites to clinch one of the automatic promotion places to the top-flight, but Alioski does not want to get carried away.

Leeds have not played in the Premier League for 16 seasons and the 28-year-old feels the club should concentrate on a game-by-game basis, rather than looking at the points table.

“There is nothing to celebrate though, we can’t take notice of the eight points, it’s nice to have them, but we have to be focused game by game,” He told LUTV.

“We need to forget how many points we are in front, we need to go game by game. We have seven games and we want to win in the seven games.”

The league leaders are scheduled to host Luton Town in their forthcoming game on Tuesday night. Nathan Jones’ side may be languishing three points adrift of safety in the 23rd spot, but Leeds can’t afford to underestimate them.

The Bedfordshire outfit are unbeaten in five league games on the trot and Leeds may have a testing challenge on their hands, considering they have succumbed to some surprise defeats against clubs in the lower half of the table.

Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers have all beaten Bielsa’s men during the current campaign while being the lesser fancied team ahead of the contest.
