Burnley close to signing Ex-Manchester United striker as their new manager

Burnley are reportedly close to signing former Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager.

The 47-year-old has been without a job since leaving PSV Eindhoven in May last year.

His tenure at PSV saw them winning the Johan Cruyff Shield and KNVB Cup but he resigned from his position citing lack of support.

Van Nistelrooy is now poised to return to management as he is the favourite candidate to take charge of Burnley, according to De Telegraaf

It is said that the Championship side have also held talks with other candidates but they are most likely to appoint the former United star as their new head coach.

Vincent Kompany led the Clarets to Premier League promotion but he failed to keep their top-flight status last season as they finished 19th in the table.

The Lancashire outfit wanted to continue with the Belgian boss despite relegation to the Championship.

But his progressive brand of football attracted Bayern Munich who appointed him as their new head coach last month.

Burnley are now close to signing Van Nistelrooy as they bid to make an immediate return to the English top-flight.

The 47-year-old turned to management after enjoying a hugely successful playing career as a striker.

He lifted the Premier League trophy with Manchester United and also won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid.
