Arsenal and West Ham United join the race to sign Brentford winger

Arsenal and West Ham United have joined a long list of clubs interested in signing Brentford winger Said Benrahma this summer, a report from Footmercato claims.

The Algeria international is presently in his second season with the Bees and he has already bagged 21 goals and 25 assists from 79 appearances across all competitions.

Out of that tally, he has managed 10 goals and eight assists during the current Championship campaign where the Bees are fourth on the table and in the pursuit of top-flight promotion.

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Leicester City and Newcastle United have already credited with an interest in the former Nice youngster and it appears that the Gunners and Hammers are also keeping an eye on the forward.

The 24-year-old is comfortable playing in both of the wide attacking positions but he has made his mark for the London-based outfit while playing from the left-wing role.

Thomas Frank’s side are aiming to return to the English top-tier for the first time in seven decades and they could resist the sale of their prized asset, suppose they are able to seal promotion.

Otherwise, their chances of keeping the attacker appear slim and there could be a potential bidding battle among the Premier League sides for the player’s signature.

It has previously been reported that the Bees could demand around £36m and not many of the above-mentioned clubs could be willing to meet the valuation amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bees are presently placed fourth in the league standings and they are 10 points adrift of the automatic promotion spots with nine matches remaining in the regular season.

A promotion push through the play-offs seems their best chance of returning to the top tier, but they need to resume their campaign on a strong note following the coronavirus shutdown.

Only five points separate them from Bristol City, who are currently just outside of the play-off positions in seventh. Brentford could restart their season with an away trip to west London rivals Fulham.
